KICK OFF UNDER THE BANNER OF THE /SLASH FILM FESTIVAL

Institut Schamlos (institute shameless) is the newest addition to the /slash festival-circus. From this year on it’ll feature topics of relevance to the industry on two intense days. First introduced at the Diagonale festival in 2013, it had following goals:

“Like the avant-garde cinema, documentaries and short movies, the fantasy genre – especially but not exclusively referring to horror, science fiction and fantasy movies – needs a lobby. Why, is easy to explain: The Austrian film culture has barely depicted the fantasy genre correctly and hardly ever discussed it over the last decades. For many intelligent and creative people, the involvement with narrative forms and means that are generally associated with the fantasy genre are still branded with a certain stigma. Institut Schamlos has to become the focal point and living room for all those discussing the fantasy genre. Screenwriters, directors, camera men, producers, film critics, cinema theorists and of course the fan community; they all should engage in a dialogue, but also work together and fight for their cause within a network.”

Now it has finally been revived and offers a view of the whole richness (or at least a part) of the creatives behind the international fantasy genre. Lectures, discussions, master classes and not to forget the Karaoke party shall leave a lasting impression even after the end of the festival. An idea, a contact, the beginning of a network, giving native film makers in particular the chance to connect with international producers, festival organizers, distributors and of course directors.

New Zealand-based producer Ant Timpson (“The Greasy Strangler”, “ABC’s of Death” series) Anaïs Emery (NIFFF – Neuchâtel International Fantastic Filmfestival), Elodie Dupont (The Festival Agency), Valeria Richter (Nordic Genre Boost) as well as the film makers Jonas Govaerts (“Camp Evil”), Billy O’Brien (“I am not a Serial Killer”), Stefano Lodovichi (“Deep in the Wood”), Veronika Franz & Severin Fiala (“Goodnight Mommy”) and Stefan Ruzowitzky (“Die Hölle”) are all confirmed guests.

Ant Timpson will be holding a master class and will make himself available for a pitching session.
